    Implant Crowns

Implant crowns are dental restorations used to replace missing teeth. At Dieterlen Dental, implant crowns can be a good option for restoring your smile after you lose a tooth. The crowns are made of porcelain material and designed to match the size, shape, and color of your natural teeth, making this a popular choice for many patients. The implant crowns are a permanent dental restoration that stays in your mouth like your natural tooth did. HOW DO IMPLANT CROWNS WORK? Dental implants are made of titanium, which is the strongest metal used for dental restorations. Titanium has a natural affinity with bone, which is crucial in preventing implant failure. Once the implant has been successfully fused with the jawbone, it’s able to support a crown, bridge, or even a full set of dentures. THE ADVANTAGES OF IMPLANT CROWNS * Preserves Natural Teeth Implant-supported crowns help you preserve your natural teeth. If a tooth is severely damaged, your implant dentist may recommend an extraction. However, if that extracted tooth is not replaced with a prosthetic soon, the neighboring natural teeth might shift to the gap left by that tooth, creating other dental problems. But with implant crowns, you can avoid this fate. By replacing the extracted tooth, an implant enables you to keep the rest of your teeth and avoid other costly procedures. * Prevents Bone Deterioration Losing a tooth or multiple teeth can result in jaw bone deterioration. When you lose a tooth, your body perceives that tooth as no longer necessary. As a result, the jawbone that used to support that tooth will begin to deteriorate. Dental implants can prevent this deterioration by mimicking your natural teeth’s roots in stimulating the jawbone and preventing the deterioration that occurs when a tooth is missing. * Preserves Facial Structure Aside from implant crowns helping prevent deterioration of the jawbone, they also replace teeth that, if left unreplaced, would have sunk one’s cheeks and make them look older.  * Maintains Oral Health With dental implants, patients can replace their missing teeth and enable them to maintain their smile without any special procedures other than basic oral hygiene. Implants can help improve the health and appearance of your smile and, by maintaining your oral health and hygiene, can make it last even for a lifetime. * Enables You to Eat the Foods You Love An implant crown is permanently attached, so you don’t have to worry about your restoration shifting around when you bite into something hard, crunchy, or chewy. As long as you brush and floss your teeth daily, your implant crown will keep its good condition. It is also stain-resistant, so you don’t have to worry about dark foods discoloring it. * Makes You Look Good and Feel Good Implant crowns are custom-made to look and function just like your natural teeth. Since they will be attached to your implants, they won’t slip or slide around, so you can eat, talk, and smile with confidence. * Maintains Your Speech Implant crowns are a good option for many patients to maintain their speech, as missing teeth can cause lisps and other speech problems. And because the implant is permanently fused to your jawbone, it doesn’t move or slide around the way partial dentures do, so you don’t have to worry about clicking noises that wearing dentures could make and distract others. Implant crowns are popular because they are meant to look and feel like natural teeth. Same Day Crowns

A same-day crown is a crown that is fabricated and placed on the same day. The crown is completed during one appointment at Dieterlen Dental, so you won’t have to schedule another visit. This crown is made by a dentist using CEREC technology.  TRADITIONAL CROWNS VS. SAME-DAY CROWNS Traditional crowns usually take two appointments, often two weeks apart. During the first appointment, the dentist will prepare your tooth and then take an impression, which will go to a lab and be used to custom-make your crown. You’ll then return two weeks later to have the fabricated crown placed. Same-day crowns, on the other hand, are made in the dental office and do not require any lab work or a second appointment. Instead, your dentist will prepare your tooth and use CEREC® technology to create your custom crown. SAME-DAY DENTAL CROWN MATERIALS Many patients choose the same-day crown because it is more convenient than a traditional crown. However, this type of crown does not offer the same benefits as a traditional crown. While a same-day crown is fabricated from a block of ceramic or composite resin, traditional crowns can be made from a variety of materials from the same ceramic or composite resin to porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, to pure metal. Thus, traditional crowns that are made of metal or porcelain fused to metal can potentially be stronger and more durable than same-day crowns. On the other hand, metal crowns are not attractive, and they often stand out against natural teeth unlike ceramic, composite resin, or porcelain crowns. THE ADVANTAGES OF SAME-DAY CROWNS Same-day crowns are a convenient solution for many patients because they allow you to receive your tooth restoration in a single visit. Your dentist will first prepare your tooth, then take digital images of your tooth and its surrounding structures. The images are fed into the CEREC computer system in the dentist’s office where the needed crown will be digitally designed and fabricated through its companion mill. When your crown is ready, your dentist will cement the crown to your tooth and make the proper adjustments. Same-day crowns are a good choice for patients who have experienced dental emergencies or patients who have had a tooth break and need to have it repaired. Same-day crowns are also a cosmetic solution that can improve the appearance of your smile. HOW LONG DO SAME-DAY CROWNS LAST? While same-day crowns offer many benefits for patients, these restorations aren’t perfect. They aren’t meant to last a lifetime but can last between five and 15 years. How long a restoration lasts depends on how well it is cared for. Patients are encouraged to practice good oral hygiene, including brushing twice a day and flossing daily. It is important to visit the dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings to ensure the longevity of a same-day crown. IS A SAME-DAY DENTAL CROWN RIGHT FOR ME? Same-day crowns are designed and fabricated in our office. We customize them to fit you perfectly and match the rest of your teeth. If you have had teeth that have suffered damage, decay, or been broken, and you want immediate restoration, same-day crowns are a great option. They are made in our office and do not require any lab work. To learn more about how same-day crowns might be an excellent choice for those with busy lifestyles or schedules, contact Dentist in Tulsa OK [https://www.teethteeth.com/], Dieterlen Dental at 3015 E. 91st Street, Tulsa, OK 74137, or call (918) 299-2400.

    Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer screening is a procedure that is performed during your routine dental checkup. During this procedure, at Dieterlen Dental, our dentist will examine you for signs of oral cancer, such as red or white lesions, ulcers, white or red patches, lumps or bumps, or changes in your oral tissues. WHAT IS ORAL CANCER? Oral cancer refers to cancer that affects the mouth or throat. While oral cancer does share many similarities to other forms of cancer, it is important to note that not all cancer symptoms in the mouth are cancerous. For example, some precancerous lesions may be benign, and while benign, can be annoying or uncomfortable to deal with. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF ORAL CANCER An oral cancer screening is designed to determine if any abnormal or precancerous cells are present. During a screening, the dentist will examine the oral tissue for signs of oral cancer. This screening is especially important for those that smoke or consume a lot of alcohol. The signs and symptoms of oral cancer vary, but some signs tend to occur more commonly than others. Oral cancer signs and symptoms include: * A sore or lesion that did not heal within three weeks * A sore or lesion that bleeds easily * Difficulty chewing  * Difficulty moving the mouth or tongue * Difficulty swallowing * An unexplained growth in the mouth * A lump in the mouth * Numbness or discomfort on the lips or in the mouth WHAT CAUSES ORAL CANCER? Oral cancer is caused by the HPV virus. The virus is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact. HPV is often found in the skin of the genitals, but it’s sometimes found in the mouth. Smoking and chewing tobacco greatly increase the risk of developing oral cancer. If you’re a heavy drinker or use other tobacco products, you may be at higher risk. HOW IS ORAL CANCER DIAGNOSED? There are several different ways that your dentist can detect oral cancer. First, a thorough oral examination will be performed. If your dentist suspects that there is an abnormality, a biopsy will be performed. During the biopsy, a small piece of suspicious tissue will be removed and sent to a laboratory for analysis. THE BENEFITS OF ORAL CANCER SCREENING Oral cancer is a serious condition. If left untreated, it can spread to the neck and the head. It can cause facial disfigurement and interfere with your ability to eat, drink, and speak. Fortunately, regular oral cancer screenings let you get the treatment you need before it’s too late. During oral cancer screenings, your general dentist will examine your entire mouth. They will especially focus on the sides and inside of your mouth, where oral cancer most often originates. They may also use a special light, called a VELscope, to help spot possible signs of oral cancer. To discover more about the importance of oral cancer screening, get in touch with Dentist in Tulsa OK [https://www.teethteeth.com/], Dieterlen Dental at 3015 E. 91st Street, Tulsa, OK 74137, or call (918) 299-2400.

    Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure performed to lighten teeth. At Dieterlen Dental, teeth whitening is used to help lighten the natural shade of your teeth. Teeth whitening can benefit the appearance of your smile by removing stains and discoloration. Whitening your smile is a quick and effective way to enhance the appearance of your smile. TYPES OF TEETH WHITENING * Professional Teeth Whitening Professional teeth whitening refers to teeth whitening treatments that are done in the dental office. Your dental hygienist will use a whitening gel or a paint-on teeth whitening product such as Opalescence Boost. Once applied, these professional products break up stains, dissolve them, and then reveal your whiter, brighter smile. * At-Home Teeth Whitening While many people prefer an in-office whitening experience, it is possible to whiten teeth at home. However, this type of whitening will take much longer to achieve the desired results. Patients can use at-home whitening kits to brighten their smiles. These dentist-provided kits contains whitening gel and customized trays. Patients fill their trays with the whitening gel and wear the trays over their teeth. Each tray should be worn for 30 minutes to one hour every day or every night until the desired outcome is reached. THE BENEFITS OF TEETH WHITENING PROCEDURE * Better Looking Smile A whiter smile is more attractive and can help you look younger. If your teeth are stained due to age or coffee, ask your dentist about teeth whitening. In addition to making your smile look better, a whitening treatment can also improve your oral health. That’s because stain-causing bacteria can be removed from your teeth. * A More Youthful Appearance Diet and lifestyle habits like smoking or drinking coffee or wine can cause the teeth to turn yellow over time, making you look older than you really are. Teeth whitening is a quick, non-invasive way to dramatically improve the brightness of your smile. The treatment can also reduce the yellowing of your teeth, giving you a more youthful appearance.  * More Professional Opportunities Whiter teeth can present you as a more professional person. Your smile will be the first thing people notice about you, so it’s important to make a good impression. Your bright smile could open doors to meeting high-level professionals that could bring you professional growth. * Prevents Sensitivity Teeth whitening can also prevent tooth sensitivity. Sensitivity can be caused by cavities or tooth enamel that has been worn away by acids produced by bacteria on your teeth. By removing deep stains and whitening the enamel, the acid-producing bacteria might also be removed, thus preventing sensitivity.  * Improved Eating Habits Many people who have their teeth whitened find that their eating habits change for the better. If you whiten your teeth, you are more likely to eat healthy fruits and vegetables. After all, it is easier to bite into an apple when you have white teeth. Invisalign

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear aligners to gradually move your teeth into proper position. At Dieterlen Dental, the aligners are removable and nearly invisible, and they help straighten teeth without metal wires or brackets. It is also a great option for busy patients, as Invisalign requires less frequent visits than traditional braces. HOW DOES INVISALIGN WORK? Invisalign aligners are custom-made from molds of your mouth. They are made specifically to fit your teeth and mouth, which makes them very comfortable and convenient. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners are removable. You can take them out before eating, which means you don’t have to worry about dietary restrictions. You can also remove them when you brush and floss your teeth, which makes it easier to brush and floss in between teeth. Every two weeks, you’ll switch to the next aligners in the series. This gradual process ensures that your teeth are shifted into their proper alignment without causing any pain or irritation. THE BENEFITS OF INVISALIGN * Comfortable Treatment Invisalign treatment is comfortable, and unlike traditional braces, there are no metal brackets or wires that irritate. Invisalign uses removable trays, called aligners, made from a soft plastic material. These aligners are custom-fit to your teeth, so they do not irritate your mouth. * Removable Aligners Removable aligners allow you to take them off for eating, drinking, and engaging in social and physical activities. This also allows you to practice good dental hygiene as the aligners will not get in the way of brushing and flossing when they are removed.  * Virtually Invisible Invisalign braces are virtually invisible, so most people won’t even notice you’re wearing braces. This allows you to enjoy casual social interactions without being self-conscious about “wearing braces.” * Better Oral Health Invisalign aligners are removable, which means that patients can brush and floss their teeth as usual, and eat and drink whatever they’d like. Traditional braces are permanently bonded to the teeth, so certain foods can damage the brackets and wires, potentially causing cavities and staining. Invisalign aligners are made with a thermoplastic material that is free of BPA and latex, so you don’t have to worry about any chemicals touching your mouth. * Better Speech Clarity Invisalign aligners are removable, so patients don’t have to worry about getting food stuck in them and continuing to wear them throughout dinner and conversation. Instead, patients can remove their aligners, eat dinner, and then rinse out their aligners before putting them back in. This allows them to speak more clearly, so patients can enjoy meals more and feel more confident. * Better Chewing Function With Invisalign, you can continue eating all the foods you love, from apples to steak, because Invisalign is removable. However, because Invisalign is removable, we recommend that patients remove their aligners before eating.  * More Food Options Invisalign clear aligners are removable. This means that patients can continue to enjoy their favorite foods during treatment. This benefit is especially helpful for patients with a busy schedule or teens with busy sports and/or social schedules. Whether you are looking to straighten your teeth or correct your bite, Invisalign could be the right choice for you. Snap-On Smile

A Snap-On Smile is a type of dental prosthetic that snaps over a patient’s teeth. Unlike traditional dentures that are clipped onto healthy teeth to replace adjacent missing teeth, a Snap-On Smile is a removable dental prosthetic that snaps over a patient’s natural teeth to cover dental imperfections and improve the look of the smile. It’s like a removable set of veneers but covers whole arches of teeth. At Dieterlen Dental, this removable dental prosthetic is fabricated with thin, but strong, resin materials. Because they are removable, Snap-On Smile patients can eat, drink, brush, and floss while wearing the dental prosthetic. Due to their thin resin materials, Snap-On Smile patients do not require any messy dental adhesives. The Snap-On Smile is extremely durable and can last up to ten years before needing to be replaced. HOW IS A SNAP-ON SMILE MADE? Many patients choose Snap-On Smile because it is fast to apply and can be easily removed if not needed. The Snap-On Smile is custom-designed to fit over your teeth. First, we will take an impression of your teeth. Then, we will send that impression to our partner lab, where they will craft your Snap-On Smile. After we have fabricated your Snap-On Smile, we will call you back in for a follow-up appointment. At this appointment, we will check your fit and your bite, and make any adjustments as needed. Once we are sure your Snap-On Smile fits comfortably and correctly, we will provide you with instructions on how to take them off and take care of them before letting you go on your way. THE ADVANTAGES OF A SNAP-ON SMILE The most obvious advantage of Snap-On Smile is the smile. Patients can enjoy the look of a Hollywood smile without having to go through extensive, invasive, and uncomfortable procedures. With Snap-On Smile, patients can smile with confidence and ease. The Snap-On Smile is an affordable, non-invasive way of concealing cracked, chipped, discolored,  or otherwise damaged teeth. The Snap-On Smile is removable, meaning that patients will be able to remove it to eat and drink. This also means that patients don’t have to worry about the Snap-On Smile affecting their speech. The Snap-On Smile fits right over your existing teeth, giving you a beautiful, natural-looking smile. Because it is removable, you can take your Snap-On Smile off to clean your teeth, or put them on for special occasions or events. The Snap-On Smile is made from a durable resin material, making it stable and comfortable for your mouth. The Snap-On Smile is made of several artificial teeth shells held together in an arch, which snap right into place over your existing teeth.  HOW DOES THE SNAP-ON SMILE WORK? The Snap-On Smile is a very thin removable dental appliance that can easily blend into your teeth. It fits over your teeth as a fingernail fits over a nail, covering up any imperfections your natural teeth might have. The thin, veneer-like prosthetics are precision-engineered to fit over your teeth and look completely natural. CARING FOR THE SNAP-ON SMILE Your Snap-On Smile needs to be cleaned twice a day, at least every night when you take it off before you go to bed.  Brush your Snap-On Smile gently with a soft toothbrush and water. Do not use toothpaste to help preserve its finish. If there are stains, soak the Snap-On Smile in a half cup of water mixed with half a cap of Snap-On Smile Cleaning Powder for 15 minutes and then rinse it in running water. After cleaning, store the Snap-On Smile in its carrying case. Don’t forget to brush and floss your teeth after taking off your Snap-On Smile. For patients who want to improve the look of their smile, but don’t want to undergo extensive procedures, the Snap-On Smile is a great alternative. For more information, visit Dentist in Tulsa OK [https://www.teethteeth.com/], Dieterlen Dental at 3015 E. 91st Street, Tulsa, OK 74137, or call (918) 299-2400.

    Lumineers and Veneers

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that our dentist at Dieterlen Dental attaches to the front of your teeth. They’re often placed to cover gaps in your smile or to correct the appearance of crooked, discolored, or otherwise visually marred teeth. Lumineers, on the other hand, are a popular brand of veneers that are thinner than other types of veneers. They are often made of porcelain and can offer a quick solution when it comes to improving the appearance of your smile. Lumineers don’t require any tooth reduction. This means that Lumineers offer a permanent, yet minimally invasive, solution to a variety of dental problems. WHEN SHOULD YOU GET VENEERS OR LUMINEERS? Veneers are most often used for larger cosmetic concerns like cracks, chips, gaps, and stains. They’re also ideal for those who have enamel loss due to teeth grinding or acid reflux. In these cases, veneers are the best choice since they restore the full tooth front structure. Lumineers, on the other hand, are better for minor cosmetic changes like minor crowding, misalignment, small chips, and stains. These issues don’t usually require full tooth structure restoration. WHICH IS BETTER: VENEERS OR LUMINEERS? Veneers and Lumineers are highly effective cosmetic treatments. They address cosmetic and minor structural issues such as chipped, cracked, or stained teeth. However, there are some significant distinctions between these two options. Veneers typically require at least two dental appointments. During the first appointment, the dentist will remove a thin layer of enamel from your teeth. Then, impressions will be made that will be used to create your veneers. This usually takes the dental lab about a week to complete. For Lumineers, the dentist will clean your teeth and then take impressions of your teeth. These impressions are sent to a dental lab, where your Lumineers will be custom-made. Once your Lumineers are complete, you’ll return for a second appointment. During that appointment, your dentist will place the Lumineers over your teeth and you will have a brand-new smile! Lumineers and veneers are both made from high-quality dental porcelain. This material is highly stain-resistant, durable, and strong. It can resist chipping and cracking, and your dental veneers will last for many years. Veneers are custom-designed to perfectly match your natural teeth. This means the color, shape, and size of the veneers are all made specifically to match your teeth. Lumineers are a bit more limited in their customization. They are available in a few set sizes and can’t be adjusted to be smaller. They also only come in one shade of white. ADVANTAGES OF LUMINEERS AND VENEERS Patients who get traditional dentures usually complain of discomfort, slippage, and an unnatural look. They also struggle with eating and speaking due to the dentures moving around in their mouth. Lumineers and veneers are placed over the front surface of the teeth and can address aesthetic flaws, gaps, and misalignment without surgery. Patients don’t have to experience any discomfort or pain that comes with grinding off significant portions of the enamel or other invasive procedures. Many of the same dental problems can be treated with veneers and Lumineers. They are, however, slightly different.
